In a week and a half, my baby turns three! I just can't believe it. Time has flown by, but what was life before him? I don't even remember. How will three be different than two? What will he learn, achieve this year? He's learned so much in the past 12 months. He's so smart, with verbal skills to rival any middle schooler (he does have problems with verb tenses sometimes, admittedly). He knows colors, letters, counting, phonics, spelling; he knows a hundred songs word-for-word. It's especially interesting to juxtapose him with his 1-year old brother. Wow, the difference 22 months makes.
So yesterday we went on a birthday mission. We wanted Owen to pick out a cake, so we could decide on a "theme" for his party. He chose a puppy cake. It's a smaller cake, with fluffy dog hair on it made of frosting. I don't know how it's made, but it's cute. We're going to order pizza (another rare treat) and have birthday cake on the day of his birthday (the 12th). He loves balloons, so I'll buy a big bag of multi-colored balloons to hang around the house. He's starting to get very excited. We made a birthday chain out of construction paper, so that each day he can tear off a link, and count down to the big day. I also strung a red ribbon across the wall, and we're hanging his birthday cards on it. He's only got one hanging so far, but he is so excited about this part. If you are family or friends who know Owen, and you want to send him a card (not a gift, just a card), he will be so excited to receive it, I guarantee it. It's much more fun celebrating with him, now that he's old enough to really understand that it is his special day.
No word on the adoption. The latest news is that we could possibly travel mid-October to early November. Far cry from the original August travel dates we were promised. That's a rant for another day, when I have the energy to even go there. Today is not that day.
